Plummer’s Picks – New on DVD and Blu-Ray

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for new Blu-Ray and DVD releases to hit stores. Here’s what to keep an eye out for…

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005ELMC1U

I was not a big fan of this movie. I think my sticking point was the fact that Captain America is a superhero, essentially because he was injected with what amounts to government designed steroids. Not exactly the message we’re trying to send to kids. Still, if you’re preparing yourself for The Avengers movie next year, I probably won’t be able to stop you from renting it.

WINNIE THE POOH

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005ELMC1U

This was a big surprise for me. I watched Winnie when I was a kid, but forgot how charming and whimsical the honey loving bear is. Winnie, Christopher Robin, Eor and Piglet are back together and it’s absolutely worth your time. Kids will love it and parents will be reminded of a much simpler time in animation.

JURASSIC PARK – ULTIMATE TRILOGY

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005ELMC1U

Steven Spielberg is the master of the big summer blockbuster. In Fact, he started the whole trend with Jaws. Much like the Jaws franchise, the original Jurassic Park is the best. The special effects were WAY ahead of their time and you feel the fear of the humans trapped on that island.

DAZED AND CONFUSED – THE CRITERION COLLECTION

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005D0RDVG

The movie that launched a bunch of careers, including Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Renee Zellweger, Milla Jovovich and Joey Lauren Adams, just to name a few. Director Richard Linklaters tribute to the ’70s captures a time that many don’t remember, because they were having way to good of  a time:)
